Trademark Policy
Last Updated August 1, 2024
These KoreLock Trademark Guidelines (“Guidelines”) outline the policy of KoreLock, Inc. and its subsidiaries (“KoreLock”) for your use of KoreLock Marks (as defined below). These Guidelines cover KoreLock’s word trademarks and service marks (the “KoreLock Word Marks”) and KoreLock's trademarks and service marks that incorporate stylization or logos (the “KoreLock Logo Marks”) (collectively, the “KoreLock Marks”), both registered and unregistered.
These Guidelines do not seek to limit the lawful use of our trademarks, including “fair use,” but rather describe the parameters lawful use consistent with KoreLock's branding expectations.
To ensure that your permitted use maintains the high quality and integrity that is associated with the KoreLock Marks, KoreLock, at its sole discretion, may terminate or modify your permission at any time. KoreLock retains and reserves all rights to the KoreLock Marks and their use, including the sole right to modify these Guidelines, with immediate or later effect. By using the KoreLock Marks, you agree that any goodwill associated with your use of the KoreLock Marks belongs to and inures solely to the benefit of KoreLock and that your use of the KoreLock Marks does not entitle you to, nor grant you any rights to, the KoreLock Marks.
If these Guidelines directly conflict with a separate written agreement, the separate written agreement prevails.
Use of KoreLock Logos
These Guidelines do not grant permission to use a KoreLock Logo Marks. You must have express written permission or license from KoreLock to use the KoreLock Logo Marks. Authorized users of KoreLock Logo Marks must comply with the express written terms for use and must follow the KoreLock Brand Standards found here.
How You Can Use the KoreLock Marks
The overarching principle for these Guidelines is that whenever you use a KoreLock Mark, you must always do so in a way that does not mislead anyone, either directly or by omission, about exactly what they are getting and from whom. If your use is permitted, but there is nevertheless the possibility that someone will misperceive what your relationship is to KoreLock, you cannot use the KoreLock Mark in that way.
As examples, this means that, without separate permission from KoreLock, you cannot:
-
Use the KoreLock Marks in a way that expresses or implies sponsorship or endorsement by, or affiliation or a relationship with KoreLock when one does not exist.
-
Use the KoreLock Marks to refer to your product or service as being certified by KoreLock unless you have explicit written authorization from KoreLock to refer to the product or service as so certified.
-
Use KoreLock Marks on any merchandise, swag, or non-software goods.
-
Use terminology that states or implies that KoreLock assumes any responsibility for the performance of your products or services.
-
Use or register, in whole or in part, the KoreLock Marks, or any phonetic equivalent, foreign language equivalent, takeoff, or abbreviation as part of your own trademark, service mark, company name, trade name, product name, service name, social media handle, or domain name.
-
Use the KoreLock Marks in a disparaging or inappropriate manner or in any manner that violates any federal, state, or international law or regulation.
-
Imitate or copy KoreLock’s trade dress, which includes KoreLock's packaging and product design.
Below is guidance on uses we are commonly asked about.
Use of KoreLock Marks with Hardware and Software
KoreLock would consider your firmware or software "combined" with KoreLock’s if installing KoreLock’s firmware or software automatically installs yours, or if you offer your firmware or software in one executable with that of KoreLock’s. However, you must remove all KoreLock Marks from your product, give your product its own name that is not similar to any of the KoreLock Marks, and use the KoreLock Word Marks only in text to truthfully describe your product and its relationship to a KoreLock product, such as the fact that the product or code you are distributing is a modification of KoreLock's firmware or software. This is because if people are misled into believing they are getting the same software that KoreLock provides, they will be confused when they are not getting the same features and functionality, customer support, or quality assurance they expect from KoreLock.
Examples of proper references to KoreLock products:
“Our [your brand] Smart Lock is built with KoreLock® patented technology.”
“Our [your brand] Smart Lock platform is based on KoreLock® embedded IoT Smart Lock technology.”
“Our [your brand] Smart Lock runs on KoreLock® technology.”
“Our [your brand] Wi-Fi locking devices can be operated using the KoreLock® mobile app.”
Use of KoreLock Marks to Describe Interoperability
You can use the KoreLock Word Marks to truthfully describe compatibility or interoperability between your software and KoreLock’s. You should never use the KoreLock Word Marks as a noun. For example, avoid referring to a product as a "KoreLock" or "Kore Lock" alone. Instead, refer to the product as "KoreLock [e.g., mobile app, patented technology, embedded IoT Smart Lock technology, software]." The KoreLock Word Marks must be used after a verb or preposition that describes the relationship between your Product and KoreLock’s. Your own brand name should always be more prominent than any KoreLock Marks. You may say, for example, “[Your brand] Smart Lock with KoreLock® patented technology inside" but you may not say "Bob's KoreLock Smart Lock."
Use of the KoreLock Marks with Websites and Marketing Collateral
You may not use the KoreLock Marks on your website in a way that suggests that your website is an official KoreLock website or that KoreLock endorses your website. You may not use the KoreLock Marks as or as part of a domain name, subdomain, social media handle, channel, page, or the like. Similarly, you may not use the KoreLock Marks in marketing materials in a way that suggests that they are KoreLock’s own materials or that KoreLock endorses your products or services. Your own brand must be more prominently featured than any of the KoreLock Marks. This means that the KoreLock Marks should not be used in page titles or headers, only in the text of the website to truthfully describe KoreLock’s products and services.
Use of the KoreLock Marks in Books and Articles
You may use the KoreLock Word Marks in book and article titles and presentations provided the use does not suggest that KoreLock has published, endorsed, sponsored, or agrees with your work. If used in a book or article title, the KoreLock Word Marks must not be the leading word or most prominent element of the title. You may use accurate, unmodified screenshots showing KoreLock products in use for purposes of illustration.
